Living in the movement - Ignoring the fact that plants will grow!
I have seen this way too many times, people will plant a small shrub, or even a tree, very close to the house or another plant. Make sure you check how large these plants will grow at maturity! The only other option is going out there every single week and trimming these plants because believe me, your landscaping will become quickly overgrown.
Mowing too short
I mow all of my yards long. The only instances I don't do this is when the client specifically asks me to mow the lawn shorter. There is a reason I do this. Mowing the grass short leaves your lawn vulnerable. It is susceptible to disease, drought, and weeds. When the grass is long, the roots are long and the plant is overall healthier. You have to remember grass is a plant. Longer grass means more surface area on the blades to absorb sunlight. More sunlight will create a much healthier lawn.
Fertilizing too much
It is very easy to over-do the fertilizer if you are not an expert. Even the experts in the Amesbury area seem to make mistakes now and again! I have heard from many people they can not find a good fertilizing company. Too much fertilizer is the main issue people face. What will happen if you use too much? You will experience a "green up" where the lawn grows crazy fast for a few days and then it will burn up. I can actually destroy an entire lawn to the point where you have to rip it up and replace it. I only use organic fertilizer with low levels of N, P, and K. This is a fool proof method and you can not burn your lawn this way. Other than the ease of use, organic fertilizer is much better for the environment. Concentrated fertilizers can run off into streams. The run off creates a nutrient rich tea that algae plants love. Algae will explode and this is not good for the ecosystem.
