As the old saying goes “you have to make hay while the sun is shining” it couldn’t be any more true for us landscapers out there. In the Northeast, (I’m located in Amesbury, Massachusetts 01913) our Landscaping season is cut short by the first snow fall of the winter.
So how do we make money in the winter time? There are many ways that we can get by during our slow season. And there is certainly not one right answer.
Personally I like to take it easy during our slow season, so I put money aside to pay the bills while we don’t have any money coming in. typically this lasts from January through March.
Many Landscapers offer snow removal during the slow months. Snow is often referred to as “white gold”. The pay day during a snow event is pretty substantial, but it is not guaranteed and it requires expensive equipment that takes a beating.
Other options include offering additional services in the winter. Pressure washing, salting, gutter cleaning for example, can be a great way to supplement your income this time of year.
The best advice I can give is to listen to your market! There is always a need for something in the service industry.
